HEAVEN ON EARTH

Have you had some moments with God that are gobsmacking? I can still remember, like yesterday, how I felt when I first got saved and met Jesus in my heart. It was so intense and special. Still today, the feelings of love are so real and He is so real, it feels like I am touching Heaven. I have had many experiences where I can feel the power, strength and love of God in my life and in my heart so strongly that it's overwhelming. It can be during my quiet time or worshipping the Lord with music or seeing something beautiful, like a sunset or other beauty in His creation. I am thinking and wondering, if we could live this way.

Colossians 3:2 tells us we are to set our minds on the things that are above rather than the things of this earth. And in verse 5 it says to put to death the sins and unclean passions, desires, envy and idolatry which are earthly but to put on the new holier traits which are more heavenly. I guess it is saying that we are to live differently to the way the world lives. This is supported as I remember in the Lord’s prayer, (Matthew 6:10) when Jesus prayed to the Father: ‘Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven’. So from this, I gather there is a place for Heaven on earth as we live and love for God’s sake. His heavenly kingdom, where His presence is all abounding, can be seen and touched by us here on earth as we follow Him. In John 18:36, the Bible tells us that Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world.

What does this mean for us?

I believe we are to live on the earth as if we are touching Heaven every moment. And we can be as we have the Holy Spirit living right inside of us (1 Corinthians 6:19). God’s guidance and leading, with our humility and obedience, can facilitate our walking and doing life differently to how our flesh wants to and how the world lives.

With these thoughts in mind, let’s begin to think differently about our lives. I wonder if you and I can, in a sense, live more in His presence, as we are in fact seated in our heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). So then, what can you and I do to live more for God, for His heavenly kingdom here on earth and how can we bring Heaven down to earth for others in our worlds?

Something to think about...
