Do you take time out to do those things that make you feel rested and fulfilled?
Caring for ourselves seems common sense, but in my experience with women, we don’t do this well. Perhaps because it requires us to put personal self-care and fulfilment as a priority … therefore competing with all the other must-do items on our to-do lists. So, mostly it just doesn’t happen.
We girls are God’s best carers but we’re not so good at caring for ourselves. Why is that?
I think it’s the caring God-given instinct, that puts other’s needs higher than our own that backfires in our own self-care.
It is more blessed to give than receive (Acts 20:35). This is true, but … it’s hard to give something away when we’re so depleted that there’s nothing left to hand out.
Instead, let’s remember Mark 12:31, which says we are to love others as ourselves. I wonder if you are loving yourself. Ask yourself what you are not doing to care for you. And then where, how and importantly why, are you missing out on what you need in order be filled up spiritually, emotionally and physically?
If you sometimes feel resentful of those beautiful (and not-so-beautiful) people in your life, take stock and consider some changes.
You might like to write a list of those things that you are passionate about and some care-for-me fun things to do.
Have coffee with a friend, book in a facial or massage. Get some accountability with a trusted pastor or mentor or coach. Write your vision statement and invite someone to check up on you.
