I was stuck! My schedule was busy and I needed to plan some things coming up but I couldn’t see the wood for the trees. I prayed, I gave it to God (well tried to) and let it go. I heard a strange word, ‘Maverick’ which means out there or different or rebel – for good or bad. ‘Okay God.’ ‘Perhaps I’ve got to think outside the box– this is going to look different to how I normally do things – righto, I’m open.’ Soon a lightbulb moment came as I had my answer about being ‘able’. I realised that I am able to do all things because God is so very able.
‘Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…’ Ephesians 3:20 NKJV
When do you get overwhelmed: is it when you are faced with the all the kid’s needs? Your spouse’s needs? Or as a single parent, the weight of it all? Time and deadlines? Messy relationships? Finances requiring miracles or ongoing health issues?
‘Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!’ Psalm 30:10 NKJV
I believe God does hear us and is always available as our Helper. He wants us to lean on Him.
My lightbulb moment was that I felt led to turn to my book, not uncommon for me to do when I am stuck. In-QUIZ-itive: Finding meaning in your mess is a reflective journal I wrote a few years ago. It came about whilst discovering a psychological phrase during my studies, coined from research, concluding that journalling, along with finding meaning from significant trials (like terrorist attacks), assists PTSD sufferers more than counselling. Amazing stuff. This knowledge impacted me so much I wrote 'In-QUIZ-itive' because finding your meaning according to God’spurposes for your life, must be so much more powerful than simple journalling. I devised an easy step-by-step journalling process for 100 different feelings or stuck places using the acronym 'QUIZ', to help the reader hear God in that particular stuck place. Firstly using Q, I ask a probing Question, then U assists the Unloading process before I give a little Inspiring encouragement (I) and then finally Z for finding God’s 'Zoe' or living Word, to bring life and find God’s meaning. The funny thing is I use my book because each topic has many applications according to the different challenges and seasons in life.
