Fear is not of God but sent by an enemy to undermine and overwhelm you. It’s to stop you stepping out of the boat, as I’ve said before (and I’ll say it again), you still can get seasick in the boat, so you may as well step out into your miracle!
Fear is mentioned 500+ times in the bible. So God must expect you and I to struggle with it; however, He has absolutely given us what we need to fight and are not alone in the battle. Jesus intercedes for us. How amazing is that?
‘Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.’ Romans 8:34 NKJV
‘…we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.1 John 2:1 NKJV
‘…He always lives to make intercession for them.’ Hebrew 7:25 NKJV
Not only is Jesus on our case but also the Holy Spirit, who leads and empowers us. Then we also have our Father God, Who with bountiful grace when we mess up, is standing with open arms again and again and again.
There are also plenty of interventions in the Bible to help us find strategies to battle the enemy of fear such as being still and knowing God with HIs supernatural ways and means to move our mountains. We can also pray and give thanks.
‘Be still, and know that I am God…’ Psalm 46:10
‘Rejoice always, pray without ceasing… 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 NKJV
It may seem like quite a task to be praying all the time. But prayer can be a lifestyle as we lift Him up whilst trying to be attuned to Him to remain constantly in communion with Him.
Then, of course there is uplifting worship and praise which can bring your breakthrough as we are brought into His divine presence. The Bible says it like this:
‘Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!’
Psalm 150:1-6 NKJV
What a way to go, right?
In Acts 16 verses 25 and 26 at midnight, Paul and Silas were praising and worshipping the Lord when amidst their impossible circumstance, a supernatural miracle broke through. Their chains were broken, the prison doors were flung open and the guards were desperate to be saved. Worship will bring your breakthrough too.
What about science? Well much research has found that mindfulness in the present moment; sharing problems with others who are trained to listen and be empathetic (counsellors, coaches etc), as well as living with gratitude and altruism (or biblically called thankfulness and generosity), increases well-being and life expectancy. This is awesome stuff right here! There are, I’m guessing, hundreds of scientific interventions on anxiety and what to do for fear but essentially, getting our mindset right is a key.
So, science and faith can intersect right there. Fight! Do battle with fear. You are the only one who can engage for you. Many of us have a victim mentality with life’s problems which seem to overtake us at every turn. Until we get into a different mind zone, we will remain a victim. I know, I’ve lived there too. The problem is then, that this mindset becomes self-fulfilling.
To do battle with fear is to find faith and here is my tried-and-true formula:
Encourage yourself to develop God-inspired:-
Hope + Trust = Faith
Change the negative mindset from hopelessness to hope. Add dollops of trust by reminding yourself when you trusted and how God came through. Then watch as faith rises up. Does this always work you might ask? Am I personally always sailing above the storm clouds of fear and anxiety? Well, no not always. Sometimes it’s tougher than tough! But you and I must keep on keeping on. We are on the way to a blissful eternity and we are right now being trained for our heavenly future.
Finally, if you continue to walk in fear, God won’t and doesn’t operate. There is still His endless grace but the miracles are elusive. But, if we get some hope and some trust and build our faith, then God moves mountains.
Will you make a change today? And what small step can you make to begin?
Love and Blessings
