Are You Growing?

Writer: Peta SoorkiaPeta Soorkia

Welcome to my new website. I hope that you enjoy finding out about me and my ministry.

I trust that I will be a blessing to you in some way.

My New Year’s resolution involved increasing the time margins into my life and schedule. Now into February, I find it’s still a little bit tricky for me as I’m very time oriented and have quite a lot of things I do in my work and life. Extra time margins should be a major focus for me because an important value in my life is sharing God’s love. This requires time! Not rushing and not being too stressed because of busyness, to share and be available for others.

Working with people as a Leader Coach and Couple's Counsellor, I find that it’s human nature to make plans that are inherently good and worthwhile for inner growth and for positive impact in our world. However, many find it difficult to follow through on well-intentioned resolutions. The other day I was listening to a Christian radio station and the talkback was about New Year resolutions, a couple of weeks down the track. Most people had planned some changes with wonderful intentions but the reality was they achieved less than their desired results.

I believe God wants us to grow by being open to new things:

‘Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not take heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.’  Isaiah 43:19 AMP.

Growing requires an opennes to the 'new'. I wonder what your New Year’s resolution was and how that’s going.  Do you need to revisit it now that we are already into February? Perhaps we can all gain God’s perspective on what we should be aiming for and how to approach it His way. Perhaps a different way is the 'new' in your life. After all, it is never too late to find a new pathway forward from this moment, irrespective of the date.

I have positioned myself in 2025 as a Christian Leader Coach to help leaders grow in their walk. My definition of a leader is someone who leads in some capacity in their workplace, family, community or church. Allow me if you will to ask you a few focussed coaching questions to mull over, wherever it is that you lead others.

  • If you want to grow in the areas targeted by your resolutions, are you willing to go to God with open hearts and open minds? (I often refer to this verse, one of my favourites, that could help you find out God’s truth for your blind spots.)

‘ Search me [thoroughly], oh God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.’

Psalms 139: 23–24 AMP

  • When will you schedule some time to hear, really hear, by listening to God’s quiet whisper to you?

  • What will be your plan of action to follow through any resolutions or God inspired directives?

  • Will you ask for accountability from a trusted person? Who will that be?

  • When will you start?

We all have blind spots, so asking God and others, such as a trusted friend, mentor or family member, to tell us the truth about how we operate, could be life changing. Ultimately though, I believe God wants us to move and grow continually as we walk with Him. But for now, moving further into 2025, let’s determine to grow into new habits, with His help, being resolute to do things His way.

For me, that is more margin to be available. Eek! Growing!

What is it for you?

Ultimately let us all shine His light as we walk together on this journey of growth.

God bless
